The couple, Mark and Mary Hughes, are grieving the loss of their daughter and decide to take a break in their remote vacation home in the woods. However, their attempt to reconnect as a family is interrupted by their new neighbors, the Sakowskis. The Sakowskis begin to infiltrate the Hughes' lives, showing up unannounced and becoming overly friendly.
As the Hughes' attempt to distance themselves from the overly-involved Sakowskis, their unsettling behavior becomes more apparent. Eventually, the Sakowskis reveal their true intentions – they plan to kill the Hughes family and assume their identities.
The rest of the movie follows the Hughes family as they desperately try to escape their dangerous neighbors, trapped with no one to turn to for help. Mark and Mary must come together to protect their son from the sinister plan of the Sakowskis before it's too late.
