Drama  Denmark,Sweden

"In a Better World" is a Danish drama film directed by Susanne Bier and was released in 2010. The film tells a story of two families, one in Africa and the other in Denmark, whose lives intertwine when an extraordinary but risky friendship blossoms between their sons.

Anton, a doctor working in Sudan, and his family live with the constant threat of violence. His wife, Marianne, has stayed in Denmark with their two sons, and one of them, Elias, becomes the victim of bullying in school. Elias finds solace in his new friend Christian, who has recently moved to Denmark with his reconciling father after his mother died of cancer. Christian is angry and violent due to the loss of his mother, and he encourages Elias to fight back against the bullies.

In Sudan, Anton treats a man who has been brutally beaten and advises him against revenge. Meanwhile, back in Denmark, Elias and Christian's acts of revenge spiral out of control, leading to tragic consequences. Anton, Marianne and Christian's father are forced to confront their moral values and their ability to forgive as they are all pushed to their limits.

The film explores themes of grief, violence, revenge, and forgiveness and questions the concept of justice. The powerful performances by the actors and the intense, engaging storyline make "In a Better World" a thought-provoking and emotionally charged film. The film received critical acclaim and won numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2011.
