The Island of Lost Love

Horror  Japan,United States of America,Canada

Imprint is a horror movie directed by Takashi Miike and part of the Masters of Horror series. The story is set in the 19th century in Japan, and it follows the American journalist Christopher, played by Billy Drago, who is searching for his lover Komomo, who he abandoned years ago. Christopher arrives at an island known for its brothels and starts looking for information about Komomo. He meets a deformed prostitute, played by Youki Kudoh, who tells him that Komomo is dead. The journalist spends the night drinking sake and listening to the prostitute's dark story.

The prostitute's story takes the viewer through a journey of abuse, sadness, and despair. She talks about being sold into prostitution by her parents as a child, being raped and abused by her clients, and seeing her only friend, Komomo, being subjected to cruel punishments. The prostitute tells Christopher about the night when Komomo was forced to undergo an abortion by a mad doctor, played by Sho Aikawa, who used barbaric methods to perform the procedure.

The story becomes more twisted as the prostitute reveals that Komomo's spirit is still lingering on the island and that her death was a result of the doctor's dark rituals. The journalist becomes obsessed with getting closure on the fate of Komomo and starts questioning the prostitute's story. He eventually confronts the doctor and finds out the disturbing truth. The movie takes a dark turn as the events of the past come to haunt the present, and the journalist finds himself trapped in a nightmarish world where the line between reality and illusion is blurred.

Overall, Imprint is a disturbing and haunting tale that explores the themes of abuse, manipulation, and the consequences of our actions. The movie's cinematography and visual effects create a bleak and surreal atmosphere that adds to the horror. The performances of the cast, especially Youki Kudoh's portrayal of the deformed prostitute, are outstanding and add depth to the characters. Imprint is not for the faint-hearted, but it is a must-watch for horror aficionados who appreciate a well-crafted and thought-provoking story.
