The Fatal Rescue Boat

Thriller  Chile,Mexico

Immersion is a Chilean drama film directed by Andrés Finat. The film tells the story of a middle-class family on vacation in a lakeside family house in southern Chile. Ricardo, the father, takes his two daughters out on a yacht one day, where they are approached by three young local fishermen on another boat, who are waving for help as their boat rapidly takes on water.

Despite his daughter's insistence on helping, Ricardo refuses as he considers the fishermen to be suspicious. They eventually sail away, and the family continues their vacation. However, their decision not to assist the fishermen will have dramatic consequences.

The movie explores themes of prejudice, masculinity, and the impact of our decisions on the lives of others. In particular, it raises questions about how our biases and preconceptions can lead to disastrous outcomes and make us complicit in the suffering of others.

The film features strong performances from its cast, particularly Marcelo Alonso as Ricardo, who conveys the character's stubbornness and flawed sense of morality with authenticity and nuance. It also boasts beautiful cinematography that captures the natural beauty of the Chilean landscape, adding a sense of realism and grounding to the film's events.

Overall, Immersion is a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant drama that explores complex ethical questions with sensitivity and insight.
