Dreams and Connections: A Comic Reunion in Paris

Comedy  France

In the movie I Want to Go Home, Joey Wellman is struggling to connect with his daughter Elsie, who has distanced herself from him and everything American. Despite the tension between them, Joey and Lena join Elsie at a party hosted by Christian Gauthier's mother.

The masquerade party is a turning point for all of the characters. Joey has a chance encounter with a young French girl who reminds him of the innocence and joy of his early years as a cartoonist. Lena confronts her own insecurities about her relationship with Joey and begins to question whether she truly knows him.

Meanwhile, Elsie's infatuation with French literature is tested when she meets a young man who shares her interests but challenges her assumptions about the superiority of French culture. As the party draws to a close, all of the characters are forced to confront the ghosts of their past and reconsider their present relationships.

Despite its melancholic undertones, I Want to Go Home is ultimately a celebration of the power of art to connect people across cultural and generational divides. The film's nuanced exploration of complex emotions and relationships makes it a compelling and thought-provoking watch.
