In the movie, Richard Cooper (played by Chris Rock) is a successful investment banker living in suburban New York with his wife Brenda (played by Gina Torres) and their two kids. Despite having a stable family life and a good job, Richard becomes increasingly dissatisfied with his mundane routine and lack of intimacy with his wife.
One day, his old friend and former crush Nikki Tru (played by Kerry Washington) comes to his office looking for a job reference. Richard is immediately drawn to her and they start to have a flirtatious relationship.
