The florist, Genevieve, is played by Nia Vardalos, who also wrote and directed the film. After a series of bad relationships, she has decided to only go on five dates with any man in order to avoid getting hurt. She owns her own flower shop in Manhattan and has a close group of friends who act as her support system.
The new restaurateur in town is Greg, played by John Corbett. He opens up a new restaurant across the street from Genevieve's flower shop and immediately hits it off with her. They start dating and Genevieve is surprised to find herself wanting more than just five dates with him.
Their relationship hits a rocky patch when Genevieve discovers that Greg has a reputation for being a ladies' man. She starts to worry about his intentions and whether or not he is just using her for a fling. In the end, they talk things over and Greg proves his love for her by planning a grand romantic gesture.
The film is a romantic comedy that explores the fears and insecurities that can come with dating in the modern world. It was released in 2009 and received mixed reviews, but many praised Vardalos' writing and performance.
