I Am Slave is a 2010 British television film directed by Gabriel Range and written by Jeremy Brock. The film is based on the real-life experiences of Mende Nazer, a Sudanese girl who was abducted and sold into slavery.

The film follows the story of Malia, a young girl living with her family in a small village in the Nubar Mountains of Sudan. One day, while her father is away, Malia is abducted by pro-government Arab militia and taken to Khartoum, where she is sold into slavery.

Malia is then sent to London, where she is forced to work as a domestic servant for a wealthy Arab family. She is repeatedly abused, both physically and emotionally, by her employers, who take away her passport and threaten to harm her family if she tries to escape.

Despite her difficult situation, Malia remains hopeful and determined to find a way to escape and reunite with her father. With the help of a sympathetic stranger, she eventually manages to escape and return to Sudan.

The film was praised for its powerful portrayal of the horrors of modern-day slavery and the resilience of its victims. However, it was criticized by some for its portrayal of black Africans as passive victims and Arabs as cruel oppressors.

Despite these criticisms, I Am Slave remains an important and moving testament to the ongoing problem of human trafficking and slavery in the modern world.
