Beaty is a single mother who works as a prostitute in a seedy London cabaret. Emory is a lighting and sound technician who works at the same club and observes the various acts on stage every night. Despite their different professions and social status, they form a strong bond and start a passionate romance.
However, their relationship is fraught with challenges. Beaty's ex-boyfriend is jealous and seeks to sabotage their relationship. Emory's friends are judgemental of Beaty's profession and don't approve of his choice of partner.
As their love grows, Beaty tries to leave her profession and start a new life with Emory, but finds that it isn't easy to escape her past. She faces danger and threats from colleagues and clients from her former life, all of which put a strain on their relationship.
The film explores their relationship in the context of the grimy London underworld of the early 1980s and the difficulties that come with loving someone from a different background. The two protagonists confront societal norms and prejudices and ultimately find a way to make their love work.
