Hunter Killer is a 2018 American action thriller film directed by Donovan Marsh and written by Arne Schmidt and Jamie Moss. The movie is based on the 2012 novel Firing Point by Don Keith and George Wallace. The film features an ensemble cast, including Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Common, Linda Cardellini, and Toby Stephens.

The story follows Captain Joe Glass (Gerard Butler) of the USS Arkansas, who is sent on a mission to investigate a missing American submarine in the Arctic Ocean. During the investigation, Glass and his crew discover that a coup d'état is taking place in Russia, and President Zakarin (Alexander Diachenko) has been kidnapped by his own defense minister, Admiral Durov (Michael Nyqvist).

Glass and his team work with a group of US Navy SEALs, led by Lieutenant Bill Beaman (Toby Stephens), to rescue the president and prevent a war between the US and Russia. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Donnegan (Gary Oldman) and National Security Advisor John Fisk (Common) work on the diplomatic front with Russian Defense Minister Dmitri Durov (Mikhail Gorevoy) to find a peaceful solution.

The action-packed film features thrilling submarine and Navy SEAL rescues, along with political drama and intense combat scenes. Hunter Killer received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the tense storyline and thrilling action sequences, while others criticized the film's lack of originality. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a moderate box office success, grossing over $31 million worldwide.
