Hunger Ward is a documentary film that focuses on the devastating effects of the ongoing conflict in Yemen on the country's most vulnerable population: children. The film takes viewers into two of the most active therapeutic feeding centers in the country, where Dr. Aida Alsadeeq and Nurse Mekkia Mahdi are leading frontline healthcare workers in the fight against starvation.
Through the lens of these two powerful women, the film provides a harrowing look at a humanitarian crisis that has largely been ignored by the international community. The war in Yemen has left millions of people in dire need of basic necessities like food, water, and healthcare. Children are particularly at risk, as malnutrition rates have skyrocketed in the last few years.
Despite the immense challenges they face, Alsadeeq and Mahdi remain determined to save as many children as possible. They work long hours, often in difficult conditions, to provide lifesaving treatment to their young patients. At times, they are forced to make difficult decisions about who they can save and who they must let go.
Through interviews with the healthcare workers, as well as with parents and children who have been affected by the crisis, Hunger Ward sheds light on the human toll of this forgotten war.
