In Howard the Duck, the laser beam experiment goes awry and brings Howard from his planet to Cleveland. There, he meets Beverly Switzler, a human musician who takes him in and helps him adjust to life on Earth.
Meanwhile, the scientists who caused the accident are trying to capture Howard and study him. They are assisted by an evil alien overlord named the Dark Overlord of the Universe, who had been accidentally brought to Earth as well. The Dark Overlord sees Earth as a potential new home for his race and plans to conquer it.
Howard, with the help of Beverly and her friend Phil, sets out to stop the Dark Overlord and return home. Together, they infiltrate the lab and ultimately defeat the overlord by trapping him in a machine that sends him back to his own dimension.
The movie received mixed reviews upon its release in 1986, but has since gained a cult following. Its use of animatronic and puppet effects for Howard's character was groundbreaking at the time, and the film's soundtrack, featuring songs by Thomas Dolby and George Clinton, was a commercial success.
