The woman in question is Nicole Bonnet, played by Audrey Hepburn, who is the daughter of an art forger named Charles Bonnet. Her father's forgeries have brought the family great wealth, but Nicole is worried that their secret will be exposed when a major art collector loans a statue to a Paris museum to be tested for authenticity.
Nicole devises a plan to steal the statue before it can be analyzed, but she needs the help of a burglar named Simon Dermott, played by Peter O'Toole. Simon is initially reluctant to get involved, but he is eventually won over by Nicole's charm and the prospect of a big score.
Together, Nicole and Simon infiltrate the museum and successfully steal the statue, but they soon realize that they have accidentally taken a priceless piece of art that was meant to be unveiled at a public exhibition the following day. With the museum on their tail and the police closing in, Nicole and Simon must find a way to return the statue without getting caught.
During their escapades, Nicole and Simon fall in love, but their relationship is complicated by the fact that Nicole is engaged to a wealthy man who is suspicious of her father's business dealings. In the end, the theft is exposed, but Nicole's father is able to escape prosecution thanks to the intervention of an eccentric collector who appreciates his work.
How to Steal a Million is a lighthearted caper film with a clever plot and plenty of witty banter between Hepburn and O'Toole. It was released in 1966 and became a popular and critical success.
