The con man, named Kevin Franklin, is played by actor Sinbad. He is on the run from the mob after accumulating a significant gambling debt. Franklin ends up in the wealthy suburb of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, where he poses as a friend of dentist Dr. George Banks (played by actor Phil Hartman).
Dr. Banks's family is initially skeptical of Franklin and his claims of being an old friend. However, Franklin is charismatic and wins over the family by helping his host's son with bullies and becoming close with Dr. Banks's wife, played by actress Kim Greist.
During his stay, Franklin is constantly in fear of being discovered by the mobsters who are searching for him. The tension builds as Franklins tries to stay one step ahead of them while keeping up his façade with the Banks family and avoiding the suspicious eye of local law enforcement.
The movie is a comedy with heartwarming moments as Franklin brings the Banks family closer together and imparts valuable life lessons. The movie also features several prominent African American actors, including Phil Morris and Jeffrey Jones.
