House on Haunted Hill is a 1999 horror film directed by William Malone. The main character, Frederick Loren, is played by Geoffrey Rush, and the other guests include Steven Price (played by Taye Diggs) and his wife, Melissa (played by Famke Janssen), Eddie Baker (played by Chris Kattan), and Sara Wolfe (played by Ali Larter).

The movie begins with Frederick Loren inviting the five guests to his wife's birthday party, which he is hosting in a creepy old mansion that was once used as an asylum for the criminally insane. Frederick offers each guest $1 million to stay the night in the house. However, the guests soon discover that they are not alone in the house and that something evil is lurking in the shadows.

As the night progresses, the guests begin to experience unexplainable and terrifying events, including strange noises, moving furniture, and ghostly apparitions. They soon realize that the house is not just haunted by the spirits of the former patients but also by the malevolent ghost of the mansion owner's wife.

As the guests try to survive the night, it becomes clear that Frederick Loren has a hidden agenda. It is revealed that he had orchestrated the events of the night and that he is using the guests as a means to achieve his own twisted goals.

House on Haunted Hill is a remake of the 1959 horror classic of the same name, starring Vincent Price. The movie received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing over $40 million worldwide.
