House of Usher is a 1960 horror film directed by Roger Corman and starring Vincent Price as Roderick Usher. The movie is based on the short story "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe.

The film begins with Philip Winthrop (Mark Damon) arriving at the Usher mansion to be reunited with his fiancée, Madeline Usher (Myrna Fahey). However, he soon discovers that something is amiss at the mansion. Roderick Usher, Madeline's brother, is seemingly obsessed with the idea that the family is cursed, and that all Ushers are doomed to a terrible fate. Meanwhile, Madeline has become completely catatonic and unresponsive.

Roderick confides in Philip that both he and his sister suffer from a condition that heightens their senses to the point of agony. He believes that this is a manifestation of the family curse, and that both he and Madeline are slowly being driven insane. As time passes, the situation becomes increasingly volatile, with Roderick growing increasingly unstable and Madeline continuing to deteriorate.

Eventually, Roderick reveals that he has no intention of letting Philip take Madeline away from the mansion. He intends to keep her there until the inevitable end, where he believes that the family curse will claim them both. As tension reaches a fever pitch, the mansion is rocked by an earthquake, and the horror that follows is both shocking and gruesome.

House of Usher is known for its atmospheric and gothic visual style, as well as its eerie musical score by Les Baxter. It is widely regarded as a classic of the horror genre, and is noted for its strong performances by Price, Damon, and Fahey.
