On a ski vacation, a group of middle-aged friends, Lou, Adam, and Nick, along with Lou's nephew Jacob, stumble upon a hot tub that turns out to be a time machine. After a drunken night, they wake up to find themselves transported back to 1986.
As they relive their younger days, they must navigate the cultural differences and technology limitations of the '80s. Along the way, they attempt to recreate the events that led to the conception of Jacob, while also trying not to alter the course of history.
As they struggle to stay true to the timeline, the group faces a series of hilarious and comical challenges, including run-ins with bullies, awkward moments with ex-girlfriends, and a showdown with a rival ski team.
Despite their efforts, one member of the group can't resist altering the course of events, putting Jacob's existence in jeopardy. The group must work together to correct their mistakes and get back to their present time before it's too late.
