Host is a found footage horror film released in 2020, directed by Rob Savage and written by Savage, Gemma Hurley, and Jed Shepherd. The film takes place during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, and involves six friends who decide to hire a medium for an online seance, conducted via Zoom.
The friends are Haley, Radina, Teddy, Jemma, Emma, and Caroline. They set up their Zoom call with their medium, Seylan, and things initially seem to be going well. However, when one of the friends makes a joke about the medium's profession, it inadvertently opens the door for a malevolent spirit to enter their virtual session.
As the evening progresses, strange and terrifying things begin to happen to each of the friends in their own homes. The group starts to realize that their joke has led to an unwanted guest, and they must figure out how to end the seance before it's too late.
The movie was praised for its inventive use of the Zoom format, which added to the realism and tension of the story. The performances by the relatively unknown cast were also highly praised.
