Homesick is a 2015 Norwegian drama film directed by Anne Sewitsky. The story follows Charlotte, a young woman who has been living in Paris for the past few years. She returns to her hometown in Norway for Christmas to spend time with her family. However, when she arrives home, she finds that her family's perfect image is just a facade and that they are all struggling with their own problems.
Charlotte's brother Henrik is suffering from depression and is struggling to keep his business afloat. Her father, who has always been distant, is now dealing with a serious illness. Her mother is attempting to keep up appearances by ignoring their problems and pretending everything is fine. And Charlotte herself is grappling with her own past traumas.
As the family spends time together, tensions rise and secrets are revealed. Charlotte begins to realize that the perfect family she thought she had doesn't exist, and that she has been running away from her own issues for too long. She must confront her past and learn to accept her family for who they are, flaws and all.
Throughout the film, the theme of loneliness is explored as each character struggles to connect with one another and find their place in the world. The stunning cinematography and poignant performances from the cast make Homesick a powerful and heartbreaking portrayal of a family in crisis.
