The three cows, Maggie, Mrs. Caloway, and Grace, live on the Patch of Heaven dairy farm with their owner, Pearl. When Pearl's land is threatened by foreclosure, the cows decide to take action and try to earn enough money to save the farm. They come across a poster advertising a reward for the capture of a notorious cattle rustler named Alameda Slim, and they set out on a mission to capture him and claim the reward money.
Meanwhile, a greedy yodeling outlaw named Rico, working for Slim, schemes to take possession of the farm and prevent the cows from succeeding in their mission. He is aided by his henchmen, a group of cowboy-hat-wearing, guitar-playing dogs.
Along the way, the cows team up with a karate-kicking stallion named Buck, and a colorful corral of critters, including a jittery jackrabbit and a neurotic pig. Together, they face various obstacles and challenges as they try to catch Slim and save the farm.
In the end, the unlikely animal alliance manages to outsmart Rico and his gang, capture Slim, and save the farm. The cows are hailed as heroes, and Pearl is able to keep her beloved Patch of Heaven.
