Kevin McCallister, portrayed by Macaulay Culkin, accidentally boards a flight to New York City while his family flies to Florida for Christmas vacation. Upon his arrival, he checks into the Plaza Hotel using his father's credit card. Meanwhile, Harry Lime and Marv Merchants, the "Wet Bandits" from the first film, have escaped from prison and are planning to rob a toy store in Manhattan. Kevin runs into them at the toy store and decides to take matters into his own hands to ensure they are caught.
Throughout the film, Kevin explores the city and its holiday decorations, including the giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. He also befriends a kind old woman named Pigeon Lady, who teaches him the value of forgiveness and trust. Meanwhile, the hotel staff becomes suspicious of Kevin's fake identity and his use of his father’s credit card.
On Christmas Eve, Kevin tricks the Wet Bandits into breaking into a townhouse rigged with booby traps, causing them to be apprehended by the police. The McCallister family is eventually reunited in New York City, and Kevin learns that the true meaning of Christmas is not about material possessions but about spending time with loved ones.
