Hoax follows a team of explorers who set out on a camping trip to the remote wilderness of Oregon in search of evidence that proves the existence of Bigfoot. The team is led by Bill (played by Brian Thompson), a television producer who is determined to get his hands on the elusive creature for the sake of ratings and fame. Along with Bill, the team consists of Jack (played by Ben Browder), a former soldier and survival expert, Michelle (played by Stephanie Barkley), a primate specialist, and a group of other researchers.
As they venture deeper into the wilderness, the team begins to experience strange and terrifying phenomena that suggest that they are not alone. They hear strange noises at night and find massive footprints in the woods. Despite Michelle's warnings that they may be facing a dangerous unknown primate, Bill is hell-bent on finding Bigfoot at all costs.
As tensions rise and the group's equipment begins to fail, they become stranded and lost in the wilderness.
