Hitch Hike to Hell is a 1977 horror movie directed by Irvin Berwick. The film follows Howard, a delivery truck driver who lives with his controlling and overbearing mother. Howard is a loner, and his only interaction with the outside world is through his job and his habit of picking up hitchhiking teenage girls.
As the movie progresses, Howard becomes increasingly unstable and violent. He starts to have flashbacks to his past, including memories of his sister running away from home and his mother becoming more controlling and abusive. As he picks up more hitchhikers, Howard's behavior becomes more erratic, and he becomes more willing to commit heinous acts of violence against them.
The central tension of the movie comes from the fact that Howard's coworkers, including his boss, suspect that something is off about him, but are unable to prove anything. Meanwhile, Howard continues to take advantage of the vulnerability of the young women he picks up, all while growing more and more delusional.
The film culminates in a dramatic showdown between Howard and one of his victims, as well as a confrontation with his mother. Despite the graphic violence and disturbing subject matter, Hitch Hike to Hell has developed a cult following over the years due to its gritty, exploitation film-style aesthetic and unflinching portrayal of a disturbed and violent individual.
