Himizu is a 2011 Japanese drama film directed by Sion Sono, which revolves around the aftermath of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The movie follows the story of two teenagers, Sumida and Keiko, who are trying to survive amidst the tragedy and destruction caused by the natural disaster.

Sumida, a 14-year-old boy, lives with his parents who run a boathouse. However, after the tsunami, his father disappears and his mother abandons him, leaving him to fend for himself. Keiko, a 16-year-old girl, is also struggling to survive after her family is also killed in the disaster.

The two teenagers cross paths at a makeshift refugee center in a school gymnasium and decide to team up to survive. As they face the challenges of living in a post-apocalyptic society, they come across a group of other homeless people who are also struggling to survive.

Himizu was acclaimed for its powerful performances by the teenage leads, Shota Sometani and Fumi Nikaido, who won numerous awards for their portrayals of Sumida and Keiko. The film also features a stirring soundtrack by acclaimed composer Philip Glass.
