High Sierra is a 1941 crime film directed by Raoul Walsh. The film follows the story of Roy Earle, a former gangster who is released from jail after serving time for armed robbery. Soon after his release, he is recruited by a criminal mastermind named Big Mac to lead a heist at a swanky resort in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Earle is initially reluctant to take on the job, but decides to do it in the hopes of retiring from his life of crime. He assembles a team of experienced criminals to carry out the heist, including a young girl named Velma whom he takes under his wing.
As they plan and execute the heist, Earle meets and falls in love with a woman named Marie. Marie is dealing with her own problems, including a crippled daughter and a tumultuous relationship with a younger man.
As the heist goes awry and Earle becomes a wanted man, he must confront his past and decide what kind of life he wants to lead. The film ends in tragedy as Earle meets his fate in a shoot-out with the police.
