Andrew Morenski (played by Jon Cryer) is a successful stockbroker who becomes the target of the mob after providing evidence against a powerful mob boss. Fearing for his life, he seeks help from the FBI, who come up with a plan to protect him by sending him to live undercover in a high school as a student.
Under the new identity of Max Hauser, Andrew enrolls in the local high school, trying to blend in with the students as much as possible. However, he soon realizes that navigating high school is more challenging than he anticipated, especially since he is older than the other students and missed out on a lot of their experiences.
As Andrew tries to navigate his way through the social hierarchy of high school, he begins to develop relationships with some of the students, including a talented musician named Ryan (played by Keith Coogan) and a popular girl named Frances (played by Annabeth Gish). However, he must also keep a low profile to avoid being discovered by the mob, which proves to be a difficult task.
As time goes by, Andrew begins to discover that being in high school is not as bad as he thought it would be. He finds himself enjoying the simple life of a teenager and starts to question his old life as a stockbroker. However, he must also remember that he is in hiding and that his life is still in danger.
