Hero Mode is a family-friendly comedy film about a teenage video game whiz named Troy Mayfield who operates a small-time gaming company with his father under the brand name Mayfield Games. Troy's father, Carlos, is struggling to make ends meet, and the bank is on the verge of foreclosing their house, which also serves as their company's headquarters.
Troy is contacted by a large gaming corporation, headed by a highly competitive and pretentious executive named Aiden, who challenges him to create the world's greatest video game in just 30 days. Aiden offers Troy a substantial financial incentive and the chance to work with his company if he wins the challenge, which Troy sees as an opportunity to save his family's company and their home.
Troy must now lead his team of quirky coders, who have never made a complete game before and face a strong rival team with tight deadlines, to create the best video game in the world in record time. They face setbacks and unexpected challenges along the way, including Troy's mother's health issues and the risks of betrayal and sabotage from their rivals.
