Hercules in New York, also known as Hercules Goes Bananas, is a 1969 comedic adventure film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first leading role.
In the film, the Greek god Hercules gets bored with life on Mount Olympus and decides to visit Earth, but is promptly stripped of his powers by his father Zeus and left stranded in New York City. He takes on the name "Pretzie" and becomes a professional wrestler, but when he falls in love with a mortal named Helen, he must face off against Zeus and the other gods to win her heart and regain his divine status.
As Pretzie, Hercules becomes a popular attraction in the world of bodybuilding, impressing crowds with his impressive physique and superhuman strength. Along the way, he befriends a young man named Pretzie Jr. and gets caught up in various mishaps and adventures in the bustling city.
Despite its low budget and campy humor, Hercules in New York was Schwarzenegger's first big break in Hollywood and helped launch his career as an action superstar. The film has since gained a cult following among fans of cheesy 1960s and 1970s cinema.
