Hera Pheri is a 2000 Indian comedy film directed by Priyadarshan and starring Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal in the leading roles. The story revolves around three unemployed individuals - Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suniel Shetty), and Baburao Ganpatrao Apte (Paresh Rawal) who are struggling to make ends meet.
One day, Raju receives a call from a kidnapper who has mistakenly dialed his number instead of a rich businessman's. The kidnapper demands ransom money for the businessman’s granddaughter, but Raju sees this as an opportunity to make some quick cash. He convinces his roommates - Shyam and Baburao – to pool in the ransom money with him, and they all set off to deliver it, hoping to make a hefty profit in return.
However, things don't go as planned as they are duped by the kidnapper who takes their money and disappears. With no money left and no idea what to do, they stumble upon a plan to make some easy money by pretending to be the granddaughter’s relatives and claiming the ransom money themselves. They soon find themselves in a web of lies and mishaps as they try to execute their plan, leading to a chaotic and hilarious series of events.
The film was a success at the box office and became a cult classic in Indian cinema, making the characters of Raju, Shyam, and Baburao popular among audiences. The film's success led to two sequels - Phir Hera Pheri (2006) and Hera Pheri 3 (in development).
