History,Drama,War  Germany,France,Austria,Spain

The movie Henri 4, also known as Henry of Navarre, is a German-French-Spanish co-production that was released in 2010. It was directed by Jo Baier and written by Heinrich Mann and Jo Baier, based on a novel by Heinrich Mann.

The movie stars Julien Boisselier as Henry of Navarre, who is the main protagonist of the movie. Henry is a charismatic and fearless warrior who is determined to lead the Huguenots to victory against the Catholic forces of France. He is also a man of compassion and ideals, who dreams of a France where Catholics and Protestants can coexist peacefully.

The movie begins with the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre, which was a turning point in the Wars of Religion that ravaged France in the late 16th century. In this massacre, thousands of Protestants were killed by Catholic mobs in Paris and other cities. Henry of Navarre narrowly escapes death, but many of his friends and allies are killed.

Henry is then summoned to the court of the dowager queen Catherine de Medici, who wants to use him as a pawn in her political games. Catherine convinces Henry to marry her daughter Margot, who is also his cousin. Henry agrees to this marriage of convenience, hoping that it will bring peace to France.

However, the wedding turns into a bloodbath when the Catholics attack the Huguenot guests, killing many of them. Henry manages to escape with his life, but he is now a marked man. He goes into hiding and starts plotting his revenge against the Catholic establishment.

The movie follows Henry's adventures as he fights battles, wins allies, and tries to win the hearts and minds of the French people. He is a complex character, who is torn between his love for Margot, his duty to his people, and his desire for revenge. He is also a man of contradictions, who enjoys the pleasures of the flesh but also has a deep sense of spirituality.

The movie is a sweeping epic that covers a lot of ground, from battle scenes to court intrigues, from romantic interludes to philosophical debates. It is a well-crafted movie that captures the spirit of the time and the personality of the man who became one of France's greatest kings.
