Helpmates Movie Plot

Disaster Cleanup with Stan and Ollie

Comedy  United States of America

Helpmates is a classic comedy movie directed by James Parrott and released in 1932 by Hal Roach Studios. The movie features the comedy duo of Laurel and Hardy in their trademark slapstick style.

The movie begins with Ollie waking up the morning after a wild party at his house. His wife is away on vacation and he is left with the task of cleaning up the mess before she returns home in the afternoon. Ollie realizes he cannot do it alone and calls his friend Stan over to help.

Stan arrives and together they begin to clean up the mess, but things quickly go wrong. In their attempts to clean up, they make more mess rather than less. They break dishes, spill paint, and even ignite curtains in their attempts to fix things.

As the day progresses, Ollie becomes increasingly panicked about his wife's imminent return. He tells Stan to hurry up, but Stan keeps making things worse. Finally, the two give up and sit down to have a drink, resigned to the fact that they have failed.

Just as they are about to give up hope, Ollie receives a telegram from his wife informing him that she will be delayed by a day. He is overjoyed, but soon realizes that he and Stan have made a total mess of the house. The movie ends with Ollie sitting in the middle of the wreckage, a look of despair on his face.

Helpmates is a classic Laurel and Hardy movie, famous for its slapstick humor and physical comedy. It is widely regarded as one of their best films and an excellent example of their comedic style.
