Hello, Dolly! is a 1969 musical film based on the Broadway musical of the same name. The film follows the story of Dolly Levi, played by Barbra Streisand, a matchmaker who travels to Yonkers, New York, to see Horace Vandergelder, played by Walter Matthau, a wealthy but miserly merchant. Dolly intends to swindle Horace out of his fortune by arranging a marriage between him and her friend, Irene Molloy, played by Marianne McAndrew.

Along the way, Dolly involves herself in the lives of Horace's two stock clerks, Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker, played by Michael Crawford and Danny Lockin, respectively. The pair, bored with their mundane lives, have decided to take a day off and see the sights of New York City. Dolly encourages them, and even sets them up with the eligible ladies they encounter along the way.

Adding to the chaos is Horace's niece, Ermengarde, played by Joyce Ames, who is in love with the hapless artist Ambrose Kemper, played by Tommy Tune. Horace disapproves of their relationship and tries to put a stop to it, but Dolly has other plans.

As the story progresses, Dolly's schemes come to light, and everyone involved is forced to confront their true feelings and desires. With lavish musical numbers and colorful sets and costumes, Hello, Dolly! celebrates the joys of love, friendship, and the hustle and bustle of life in New York City.
