Helldriver is a 2010 Japanese horror film directed by Yoshihiro Nishimura. The film takes place in a post-apocalyptic Japan, where half of the country has been taken over by zombies. The heroine of the story, Kika, is a teenage girl whose mother, Rikka, has been turned into the "Zombie Queen" and now commands the zombie armies. Kika is determined to find and kill her mother, in hopes of ending the zombie apocalypse.
Kika forms unlikely alliances with some other survivors, including an amputee sniper named Taku, a mysterious man named Kaito, and a group of rebels known as the "Revengers". Along the way, they encounter various obstacles, such as other zombie factions, mutants, and even a gigantic, zombie-like creature known as the "zombie bull".
The film is notorious for its extreme violence and gore, with Nishimura being known for his skill in creating practical effects. Scenes include graphic dismemberment, exploding heads, and even a zombie baby emerging from a woman's stomach.
Despite its low budget and over-the-top nature, Helldriver has gained a cult following for its unique take on the zombie genre, as well as its mix of horror and comedy.
