Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison is a 1957 film directed by John Huston and starring Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr. The film is set during World War II in the South Pacific and is based on the novel by Charles Shaw.

The film follows the story of Corporal Allison, who drifts to Tuasiva Island after his ship is torpedoed. He meets Sister Angela, a nun who has been stranded on the island after her boat left her behind. The two of them become friends and work together to survive on the island.

Their peaceful existence is threatened when the Japanese arrive on the island to build a base. Allison and Sister Angela must hide in a cave to avoid being captured. Allison, being a trained Marine, uses his skills to provide food and shelter for them both.

As time goes on, the two of them develop romantic feelings for each other. However, their love is forbidden due to Sister Angela's religious vows. The tension between them heightens when they are forced to share the same cave due to the Japanese presence on the island.

In the end, they are rescued by the US Navy and Allison returns to duty. Sister Angela returns to her religious order but is conflicted over her feelings for Allison. The film ends with them parting ways, unsure of what the future holds for them.

Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison received critical acclaim for its performances by Mitchum and Kerr, as well as its stunning cinematography of the South Pacific. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Actress for Kerr.
