Based on a true story, Heaven is for Real follows the Burpo family - Todd (Greg Kinnear), Sonja (Kelly Reilly), and their three children - as they navigate through a difficult time in their lives. One day, their youngest son, Colton (Connor Corum), falls ill and is rushed to the hospital where he undergoes emergency surgery. During the surgery, Colton slips into a coma and his family fears the worst.
However, after Colton wakes up, he begins to tell his parents and the members of their small town community about his experiences in heaven. Colton talks about meeting Jesus, his great-grandfather, and the angels that watched over him during his surgery. He also speaks of the colors and beauty of heaven that he cannot accurately describe.
As Todd comforts his son and tries to make sense of what happened to him, he begins to have doubts and struggles with his faith. He fears that people either won't believe Colton's story or that they will think he made it up. Through it all, Todd seeks guidance from his wife, his friends, and his congregation, as he tries to reconcile Colton's experiences with his own beliefs.
Heaven is for Real is a heartfelt and emotional movie that explores themes of faith, love, and the power of belief. It is a story of hope and the incredible bond between a father and son, as well as the enduring faith of a small town community. The movie is based on the best-selling book of the same name, written by Todd Burpo and Lynn Vincent.
