Hearts in Atlantis is a 2001 American drama film based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. The movie is set in 1960 in the small town of Harwich, Connecticut, where a widowed mother, Liz Garfield (played by Hope Davis), lives with her young son, Bobby (played by Anton Yelchin).
One day, a mysterious and enigmatic stranger named Ted Brautigan (played by Anthony Hopkins) rents a room in Liz's boarding house. Ted begins to develop a close relationship with Bobby and shares with him his psychic powers to read people's minds.
As Ted becomes more involved with the Garfields, he draws the attention of a group of shadowy government agents who are hunting people with psychic abilities. Ted fears that they will capture him and use him for their own purposes, so he must leave town. Before he goes, he gives Bobby a final message and disappears.
Years later, Bobby, now an adult, realizes the true meaning behind Ted's mysterious message and sets out to find him. Along the way, he discovers the power of love and the importance of family and connections that last a lifetime.
Hearts in Atlantis is a poignant and engaging story about loss, hope, and the mysterious forces of the universe. The film is directed by Scott Hicks and features a stellar cast, including David Morse, Mika Boorem, and Alan Tudyk.
