Heartburn is a 1986 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Mike Nichols, based on Nora Ephron's semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. The movie stars Meryl Streep as Rachel, a food writer who falls in love with Mark (played by Jack Nicholson), a political journalist and womanizer, and they eventually get married.

Rachel's marriage to Mark seems perfect at first. They are both successful in their careers and have a gorgeous house in a great neighborhood. However, things start to unravel when Rachel discovers that Mark has been cheating on her with a mutual acquaintance.

Rachel, who is also pregnant with their second child, is devastated. She turns to her closest friends for support but finds little solace. She confronts Mark about his infidelity, but he is unapologetic and dismisses her feelings.

Rachel decides to take control of her life and leaves Mark, moving with her children to a new home in Washington, D.C. She decides to write a cookbook, which becomes a best-seller and gives her financial independence.

Despite her success, Rachel still struggles with her feelings for Mark. They try to reconcile but ultimately realize they are better off apart. The movie ends on a hopeful note as Rachel moves on with her life, finding peace and happiness in her work and her children.

The film was praised for its writing, direction, and performances, particularly those of Streep and Nicholson. It deals with themes of love, marriage, infidelity, and the complexities of relationships.
