Heartbeats follows Kelli, a young and talented hip hop dancer from Los Angeles who travels to India with her family for her cousin's wedding. While there, Kelli is introduced to a new dance style called Bhangra and is enamored by the energy and joy it brings to the people around her.
Kelli meets Aseem, a skilled Bhangra dancer who becomes her teacher and guide through the vibrant culture of India. The two form a close bond as they spend time practicing and performing together, and Kelli begins to fall in love with the country and its traditions.
As the wedding festivities approach, Kelli and Aseem prepare for a special performance that will showcase their combined talents. But when Kelli's family disapproves of her newfound passion for Bhangra and wants her to return home, she is faced with a tough decision: stay in India and pursue her dreams or return to the US and leave behind the love and inspiration she has found.
