After the unexpected death of the presidential candidate, Senator Bill Arnot, the Democratic party is left without a clear choice for a replacement. As a result, they choose Mays Gilliam, a relatively unknown D.C. alderman, to run for President.
At first, Mays is hesitant and unsure of his ability to run for such a high office. However, with the help of his brother and his campaign staff, he begins to gain momentum and gather a following. As he begins to gain popularity, Mays is faced with a series of challenges, including opposition from within his own party and attempts at sabotage by his opponent, the incumbent Vice President, Brian Lewis (played by Nick Searcy).
Despite these challenges, Mays remains steadfast in his beliefs and continues to campaign on a platform of honesty and integrity. He gains widespread support from the African American community and ultimately becomes a serious contender for the presidency.
In the end, Mays Gilliam is elected President, and he delivers a rousing speech that inspires the country and sets the tone for his presidency. The film ends with a scene of Mays and his brother driving off into the sunset, ready to take on the challenges of leading the country.
