Fields of Blooming Dreams

Drama,Romance  France

Harvest, also known as The Sun Also Shines at Night, is a French drama film directed by Marcel Pagnol, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Jean Giono. The film is an adaptation of Giono's novel, Regain.

The film is set in a small village in the Provence region of France during the 1930s, a time when people were leaving the countryside to find work in the city. The village is losing its population, and only a few old people and the poacher Panturle (played by Fernandel) remain.

Panturle dreams of bringing the village back to life by finding a wife and starting a family. His dreams come true when a traveling knife-grinder, Urbain Gedemus (played by Charles Blavette) arrives in the village with his young companion, Arsule (played by Orane Demazis).

Gedemus treats Arsule like a slave, and she has nowhere else to go. Arsule accepts her situation until she meets Panturle and learns about his dreams. She decides to escape from Gedemus and stay with Panturle.

Together, Panturle and Arsule start a new life, working hard as farmers but finding happiness in their new life together. However, their happiness is threatened when Gedemus returns to the village and tries to take Arsule back.

Harvest is a touching and beautifully filmed story of love, hope, and the power of human resilience. The film's stunning cinematography and naturalistic performances capture the beauty and simplicity of rural life in 1930s France.
