Happiness

Romance  South Korea

Happiness is a 2007 South Korean drama film directed by Hur Jin-ho and starring Hwang Jung-min and Im Soo-jung. It tells the story of Young-su, a successful businessman who discovers that he has a terminal illness and decides to leave behind his high-flying city life and retreat to a sanatorium in the countryside to contemplate his life and fate.

At the sanatorium, Young-su meets a young woman named Eun-ji who is also a patient there. Over time, they develop a close bond and soon fall in love. They decide to leave the sanatorium together and move into a small but cozy farm house where they can live out the rest of their lives in peace and solitude.

However, Young-su's old friends from the city come to visit him, and he begins to question whether he should return to his former lifestyle rather than live out his final days in the mundane rural village. This conflict between the desire for material wealth and the pursuit of happiness drives the story forward, as Young-su and Eun-ji struggle to find a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives.

As the story unfolds, the audience is drawn into the lives of these two characters and the challenges they face as they navigate their way through the joys and sorrows of life. The film is a moving and poignant meditation on love, loss, and the search for happiness in a world that can often seem overwhelming and confusing.
