Happily is a dark comedy movie directed by BenDavid Grabinski, who also wrote the screenplay. The film stars Joel McHale and Kerry Bishé as Tom and Janet, a happy couple who have been married for 14 years and still can't keep their hands off each other. Their constant public displays of affection make their friends resentful.
One day, while the couple is hosting a party at their house, a mysterious stranger named Goodman (Stephen Root) shows up at their doorstep. Goodman informs Tom and Janet that they are part of a select group of people who have been genetically modified to be perpetually happy, and that their relationship is a scientific anomaly. He then announces that he has injected the couple with a serum that will turn off their happiness gene.
The next morning, Tom and Janet wake up to find that their love and affection for each other have vanished. They try to fake their happiness, but their friends notice something is off. Then, during a weekend couples retreat, one of their friends is killed, and they are accused of being responsible.
Tom and Janet must navigate their way through a series of bizarre events and confront their own questions about love, loyalty, and happiness to clear their name and regain their happiness. As the truth is revealed, Tom and Janet's marriage is put to the ultimate test.
