In the film, the protagonist is a teenage hacker named Dade Murphy, who goes by the handle "Zero Cool." He and his friends are part of a group of underground hackers in New York City. However, several years earlier, Dade had been caught hacking into numerous computer systems and causing a major crash, for which he was banned from using computers until he turned 18.
When Dade is finally able to reconnect to the online world, he becomes friends with a group of fellow hackers, including the beautiful Kate Libby, who goes by "Acid Burn," and a charismatic hacker named Emmanuel Goldstein. Together, they discover a plot by a rogue hacker named "The Plague" to steal millions of dollars from a large corporation by inserting a virus into their mainframe.
As they try to uncover evidence of The Plague's plan, they are pursued by the Secret Service, led by Agent Richard Gill, who is convinced that Dade is working with the villainous hacker. The group of hackers must use their technical skills and ingenuity to stay ahead of the authorities and find the proof they need to stop The Plague before it's too late.
Along the way, they participate in illegal hacking competitions, infiltrate the corporation's servers, and use social engineering tactics to gain access to sensitive information. The film is a high-energy, fast-paced thriller that shows the power of technology and the dangers of using it for malicious purposes.
