In Gun Hill, Bird Stevens, a career criminal from Queens, New York, travels to Manhattan to meet up with his identical twin brother, Trane (also played by Larenz Tate), a cop. Trane has been investigating a drug cartel and is set to testify against them the next day. However, he is gunned down in front of Bird, leaving him devastated.
Bird decides to assume Trane's identity to find out who killed his brother and seek justice. He poses as Trane and takes over his apartment, car, and phone, but struggles to adapt to his brother's life as an officer of the law. Bird starts investigating the case and comes across a web of corruption involving the police, gangs, and politicians.
As Bird gets closer to the truth, he begins to question his own morality as a criminal and his loyalty to his brother's memory. Along the way, he forms a bond with Trane's partner, Maya (played by Emayatzy Corinealdi), who helps him navigate the investigation and his internal conflicts.
Gun Hill is a gritty, action-packed thriller that explores themes of identity, family, and redemption. It features a strong performance from Larenz Tate in a dual role and is directed with a stylish flair by Reggie Rock Bythewood. The film originally premiered on BET in 2014.
