Guarding Tess is a 1994 comedy-drama film starring Nicolas Cage and Shirley MacLaine. The movie revolves around the character of Doug Chesnic, a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting Tess Carlisle, a widow of a former U.S. President. Doug is considered one of the best in his line of work, but his expertise is often put to the test as Tess is not an easy person to protect.
Throughout the movie, Doug and Tess build a love-hate relationship while he tries to keep her safe from potential threats. Tess, on the other hand, resents having to be under constant watch and control of the Secret Service. Towards the end of the movie, Tess is kidnapped, and Doug goes to extreme lengths to rescue her. He risks his own life and defies orders to save her. After her rescue, Tess begins to see Doug in a different light and acknowledges his efforts to keep her safe. The movie ends with Doug accepting Tess's request to be her permanent guard, but with a newfound understanding between them.
Guarding Tess is a heart-warming and funny movie that focuses on the unlikely friendship between two people from different worlds. The movie received mixed reviews from critics but was appreciated for the performances of the two lead actors and the touching relationship they portray.
