The protagonist, Matt Buckner, is a journalism student at Harvard who gets expelled after he is caught with drugs that his roommate planted in his room. He travels to England to stay with his sister and her family. There he meets his brother-in-law, Pete Dunham, who is a member of a football firm, a group of hooligans who support a football team and engage in violent clashes with rival firms.
Matt is initially hesitant about this lifestyle, but after witnessing the loyalty and brotherhood among the Green Street Elite (Pete's firm), he becomes drawn to it. With Pete's help, Matt learns to fight and becomes a respected member of the firm.
As tensions rise between the Green Street Elite and their rivals, Matt must navigate the dangerous world of hooliganism and learn to survive on the streets. He also discovers that the violence is fueled by more than just football rivalries and that there is corruption and betrayal among the various firms.
In the end, Matt must decide where his loyalties lie and whether to continue living on the edge with the Green Street Elite or return to his old life in America. The film explores themes of brotherhood, loyalty, violence, and the consequences of living a life on the edge.
