Christmas Chaos: A Cross-Country Adventure

During their road trip, 17-year-old Teddy tries to write a college essay about her family's Christmas traditions, but finds herself constantly distracted by the chaos surrounding her. Her parents Amy and Bob bicker and argue about driving directions and whether to stop at various roadside attractions. Teddy's younger siblings PJ, Gabe, and Charlie cause trouble for the couple in the Roswell station wagon, leading them to quickly ditch the Duncans on the side of the road.
Desperate to make it to Utah to catch a flight to Palm Springs, the Duncans eventually find a car dealership and purchase a beat-up Yugo. They stop in Las Vegas to get some food, but their luggage is stolen by a group of thieves while they are inside. Stranded in Las Vegas with no money or clothes, the family is forced to wear tacky tourist outfits and perform a musical number at a casino in order to earn some cash.
Finally arriving at Grandma and Grandpa Blankenhooper's house in Palm Springs, the Duncans are greeted with more chaos. Grandpa's infatuation with a young female neighbor causes tension between him and Grandma, while Teddy discovers that her essay about her family's Christmas traditions is due a day earlier than she thought. She rushes to finish it, but accidentally submits a rough draft full of embarrassing personal information.
