Insurance investigator Maindrian Pace and his team, which includes his girlfriend, an electronics expert, and a stunt driver, have developed an elaborate plan to steal 48 luxury cars in less than a week. The group leads double-lives as they steal cars during the night and use their cover jobs during the day to avoid suspicion.
The operation goes smoothly until they receive an unusual request from a South American drug lord who wants them to steal specific cars within a strict deadline. In exchange for their services, the drug lord offers a large sum of money that the team cannot refuse.
However, things become complicated when Pace realizes that one of the cars on the list, a 1973 Ford Mustang nicknamed "Eleanor," is proving especially difficult to steal. As the deadline approaches, and the pressure to deliver on their promise increases, the team must use all their skills and resources to successfully complete their mission.
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to them, Pace's former employer in the insurance industry has grown suspicious of his activities and hires a private investigator to track him down. The police also become aware of the car theft ring and begin closing in on the group's operations.
As the clock ticks down, the team races against time to steal the last remaining car and escape the clutches of the law. The film's climactic chase features an iconic car chase across Long Beach, with Pace behind the wheel of Eleanor, pursued by the police and a rival gang of car thieves.
