Goldie

Drama  United States of America

Goldie is a coming-of-age drama film, written and directed by Sam de Jong. The story follows Goldie, a precocious 18-year-old who lives in a rundown shelter in New York City with her two young sisters, Sherrie and Supreme.

Goldie dreams of pursuing a career in dance, and she spends her days practicing her moves and auditioning for dance schools. However, her dreams are threatened when her mother is arrested and her sisters are taken away by Child Protective Services. Determined to keep her family together, Goldie embarks on a mission to find a new home for them and get her sisters back.

As Goldie navigates through the labyrinth of the social welfare system and the cut-throat world of dance auditions, she faces insurmountable challenges, including homelessness, poverty, and racial discrimination. However, she refuses to give up on her dreams and pushes herself to the limit to overcome these obstacles.

Along the way, Goldie encounters a cast of colorful characters, including a veteran dancer who becomes her mentor, a streetwise rapper who helps her find a new home, and a shady talent agent who promises her a shot at stardom.

Through it all, Goldie's fighting spirit and indomitable spirit shine through, inspiring those around her and reminding us of the power of hope and resilience in the face of adversity.
