GoldenEye is the seventeenth installment in the James Bond film series and was released in 1995. The film stars Pierce Brosnan as the titular character and marks his debut as James Bond. Directed by Martin Campbell, the film also stars Sean Bean, Izabella Scorupco, and Famke Janssen in pivotal roles.
In the film, James Bond is sent to investigate the theft of a key component of the GoldenEye satellite system from a Soviet military base. Bond meets the beautiful computer programmer Natalya Simonova, who survived the attack on the facility and joins him to locate the Janus Syndicate, a group of former Soviet operatives led by the mysterious Janus.
As Bond tracks down the pieces of the missing GoldenEye weapon system, he discovers that Janus is actually Alex Trevelyan, a former MI6 agent who faked his death years earlier and now seeks to exact revenge on Britain for betraying his parents during World War II.
Bond and Natalya race against time to stop Janus from using the weapon system to cause a devastating electromagnetic pulse that would cripple Britain's economic and military infrastructure. Bond engages in a thrilling chase sequence on a motorcycle and ultimately confronts Janus in a climactic showdown atop a satellite dish.
GoldenEye was a critical and commercial success and helped relaunch the James Bond franchise for a new generation. It received positive reviews for its action, performances, and soundtrack by composer Eric Serra.
